Intro to Paper Animation From Lotte Reiniger to Janie Geiser, for nearly a century artists have utilized paper to create complex, evocative cinematic worlds. This workshop is designed as an introduction to the history and technique of 2D stop-motion paper animation. Topics to be explored include the history of paper animation, design and construction of effective puppets, and animation techniques. Participants will design and build a simple jointed figure for animation and learn how to animate their unique creation!

Participants will learn how to create an effective touring press packet and develop strategies for booking a successful run including: Documenting for the press packet (photo, video, press) Distilling the essence of the company and the show into a succinct presentation through word, image and video Identifying and effectively detailing technical needs Developing a focused and realistic budget Creating the right fit with the presenter Communicating with the venue This workshop is geared for those who wish to acquire the techniques of preparing a successful touring press packet. The focus will be on how to effectively tell the story that leads to a successful run. At the end of the workshop, participants will understand: WHY Press Packets Matter WHAT key elements should be included in a Press Packet HOW to work with venues from first contact to booking The goal of this workshop is to give participants a little expertise and an efficient process to create a document that excites, informs, and gets a show booked!
So...You Want to Use a Puppet This workshop is designed as a practical guide to utilizing puppetry in a theatrical production. Co-presented by a producer and director passionate about the field of puppetry, both overarching artistic concerns and the nuts and bolts of the process will be explored. Participants will dig into both the benefits and challenges of using a puppet onstage, including an investigation of how puppets affect the overall aesthetics of a piece, production timeline, budgets, and the rehearsal process.
